Rick Ware Racing has been a staple of the NASCAR Cup Series for many years now. The team had been making select starts in Cup since 2004 after a failed attempt at a debut in 1998. However, we, as NASCAR fans, recognize them mostly from 2017 to the present, when the team has been running full-time.
Today, AP’s Jenna Fryer broke the news that former Spire Motorsports investor T.J. Puchyr is getting back into NASCAR after purchasing the Rick Ware Racing team. Puchyr will take control of the team following the 2025 Cup Series season. Per Fryer, “In his deal with Ware, Puchyr will keep Ware on board as a partner, also keep Ware’s son Cody, in the No. 51 Ford, and retain all of the current RWR employees.” Essentially telling us that Rick Ware Racing could essentially be the same brand with some new management.
They also addressed the current lawsuit by Legacy Motor Club concerning the questioned sale of RWR’s second charter that is currently leased to Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing; they stated they hope the charter will be returned to them by 2027. The point of all of this is to make Rick Ware Racing (Pending changing the name or now) into a three car Cup team by 2027.
