Erik Jones to Miss Dover Due to Spinal Fracture, Heim to Fill-In

First off, we start by wishing Erik a speedy recovery.

Following his Lap 157 multi-car crash at Talladega Superspeedway, Erik Jones, driver of the Legacy Motor Club No. 43 Camry, immediately vocalized his pain over the radio. Jones was checked and cleared from the track’s infield care center but later taken to a Birmingham hospital.

Tuesday, Jones posted a video on social media where he stated he is at home healing from what he said was a spinal fracture. He added that he would be missing this weekend’s Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway but would be in attendance to work with the team, but his return to the race car will be taken week by week in his recovery.

Toyota Racing Development’s backup driver for Legacy and 23XI is Corey Heim, who will be filling in for Jones this weekend. Heim runs full-time in the Craftsman Truck Series for TRICON Garage. Over his career, Heim has won 6 Truck races in 47 starts and made 9 Xfinity Series starts. Dover will mark the 21-year-old Marietta, GA native’s first career start in NASCAR’s top series.

This will be the first race Erik has missed since Homestead 2015.
