Dale Earnhardt Sr. & Jr. are arguably the most famous NASCAR drivers in history. The pair were also extremely successful in their careers in NASCAR. Sr scored a total of 97 wins between the Busch and Cup Series with Jr scoring 50.

  • Ralph Earnhardt, father of Dale Sr. has over 350 NASCAR wins to his record over many series. With exact win totals in each series difficult to find, I did manage to count 92 wins in the Busch Series predecessor “Late Model Sportsman” division between 1954 & 1968 although I could not find a way to confirm that number. That would bring the family total to 239.

Petty – 265

The Petty name in NASCAR is Legendary. Lee Petty, father of 201-time NASCAR winner Richard Petty, is one of the sport’s pioneers, racing NASCAR Race Number 1 in Charlotte on June 19, 1949. Lee amassed 56 wins to his name, nowhere near his son, but a record that to this day keeps him 12th all time in Cup at 54. His grandson Kyle Petty scored 8 more NASCAR wins for the family in his career that ended in 2008.

Busch – 274

Kurt and Kyle Busch have been synonymous with NASCAR for the last two and a half decades. At his time of of retirement, older brother Kurt was the last driver in the Cup Series to race against Dale Earnhardt. Both are Cup champions and both have impressive accolades. Kurt has 43 career NASCAR victories to his credit across all 3 National Touring Series. Kyle on the other hand has all but 1 driver mentioned on this list eclipsed.

Kyle Busch is not only the current active winningest driver in the NASCAR Cup Series, he is also the winningest driver ever in the NASCAR Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series. To top that off, Kyle Busch is also the winningest driver in the history of NASCAR. 231 combined wins. That’s almost 100 wins more than the No. 3 family on this list.

The Next Generation

The Next Generation of NASCAR drivers is coming. Young drivers such as Keelan Harvick and Brexton Busch are already knocking down win after win in their respective series along with Carter McMurray.

Son of former Truck Champion Travis Kvapil, Carson Kvapil, has shown tremendous promise in his starts in NASCAR. Todd Gilliland, son of Busch Series winner can add to that family’s total along with Layne Riggs with theirs.

Even younger yet are sons of NASCAR Champions Clint Bowyer and Kyle Larson who have taken up interest in racing as well. Generations of drivers and fans have made this sport their homes, and I for one cannot wait to see the future.
