With Easter coming up this Sunday, the Cup guys are on vacation, but the O’Reilly AP Series and Craftsman Truck Series are in full early-season swing. Heading back to the Rock for the second time since 2013, we will get a show. The OAPS will feature the Dash 4 Cash qualifier and some big names. A big story, one driver and car are missing. The Craftsman Truck Series will be throwing around $50,000 to the winner, with the Triple Truck Challenge. The weekend will also feature Cup drivers hitting the track despite the holiday.
Craftsman Truck Series
The CTS will feature some big names, including Sammy Smith, Ty Dillon, Corey Heim, Carson Hocevar, and Adam Andretti, making part-time starts. But that big money is heading to one lucky driver’s checkbook when they win the second of the Triple Truck Challenge races this weekend. A $50,000 bonus for the winner. Corey Heim won it last weekend and now has a chance to win two “Trip” races, worth $150,000, with a chance at half a million dollars if he can win all three.
O’Reilly Auto Parts Series
This weekend marks the qualifier for the first Dash 4 Cash race for the OAPS at Bristol next weekend. Cleetus McFarland will make his O’Reilly Auto Parts Series debut in the Richard Childress Racing No. 33 Chevrolet with a little help from Tommy’s Express Car Wash following his Craftsman Truck Series debut at Daytona earlier this season.
Nick Sanchez and the No. 25 team of AM Racing have withdrawn from the event in what is probably the biggest pre-race story of the weekend. As of now, no explanation has been given for the team’s withdrawal. That leaves just a single Ford entry for this weekend with JJ Yeley in the Hettinger Racing No. 5 car.
