Talladega Shakeup: NASCAR Reduces Final Stage Lengths

NASCAR announced that the final two stages of the April 26th Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway will be shortened to address fuel-saving and line-riding, both of which fans and drivers have frequently complained about.

Last season’s Talladega race segments were: 60/60/68. According to NASCAR’s Executive Vice President, John Probst, the upcoming race will feature stages comparable to 100/50/50. Although nothing official has been mentioned, if this experiment is successful, we could likely see this adopted at Daytona and Talladega again later in the Chase.

Probst acknowledged that following the Daytona 500, NASCAR began working with the race teams on how to end fuel-saving racing (or lack thereof).
