Per Matt Weaver, Chandler Smith’s Xfinity Series contract has been bought out by Joe Gibbs Racing. After winning earlier this season at Richmond, the Kaulig Playoff driver has had a fairly quiet remainder of the season although making it to the Round of 8 in the Series.

Chandler Smith and Kaulig had 2 additional years on the pair’s Xfinity Series contract where Chandler had also made 3 Cup Series starts for the team. That means, Smith would have had to buy out his current contract, which it sounds as though he has done so.

Gibbs has lost one of their prized drivers with the loss of Sammy Smith to Jr Motorsports for the 2024 season leaving the team without an announced full-time driver for 2024 after it was announced that J. H. Nemechek would be moving to the Legacy Motor Club Cup team. It is expected that Chandler Smith will make a visit to JGR for media responsibilities Monday for an official announcement.
