Have you ever seen the movie, Escanaba in da Moonlight from 2001 with Jeff Bridges? One of the characters, Jimmer has car problems and upon arriving the rest of the character proceeds to say “My Chevy shook a shoot!” (My Chevy took a shit).

Well, the same thing happened at the Xfinity 500 this weekend during a late race caution. The pink Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 rolled up to the top of Turn 3 with apparent issues. The whole field led by Chase Elliott and Aric Almirola held back and waited, not knowing the car was having issues. Passing the pace car on track is a big penalty after all.
Come to find out, the pink ZL1 was kicking up so much of the tire rubber buildup on the track that it was flying up under the vehicle and ended up breaking wiring loose on the car. These manufactures pay a lot of money to be the Official Pace Car. So, with a Ford F-150 leading the field after the Camaro’s issue, that had to hurt. The backup pace car however was quick to resume the duties of the original.
Now keep in mind, this is not a build or quality issue on behalf of Chevrolet or General Motors. This was an oddball issue caused my the rubber build-up being kicked up.
Now, as you may know, this is not the first issue NASCAR has had with a pace car. One that stands out in my mind was the 2014 Daytona 500’s blue Chevrolet SS had an electrical fire in the trunk.
