Originally, practice and the Saturday practice/heat races for the 2024 Busch Light Clash at the LA Coliseum, for some odd reason this year, were not open to the public. This apparently only became common knowledge this past Wednesday.
And this is why I love sports fans: we went to work.
When it came out that NASCAR was not letting fans into the Coliseum for practice or the Clash heat races, X (formerly Twitter) erupted. Not only did the fans but many media personalities, including myself, called out and question the leadership at NASCAR. I even called out, tagging Ben Kennedy questioning the decision. Most fans bought event tickets expecting a whole weekend’s worth of racing, music, and fun like the previous 2 events.
Waking up Thursday morning, the bullying of the sport continued across social media. YouTubers, Facebook, Instagram, X… You name it, people were losing it.
At 7:31pm on Thursday afternoon, NASCAR responded. Ben Kennedy posted a video response via the Busch Light Clash X account, “Hey race fans, we’ve heard you loud and clear.”
NASCAR announced that not only would Saturday be opened up to race fans, but you would not need a ticket to gain access to the event. That means, Practice as well as the qualifying heats for the NASCAR Mexico Series as well as the Cup Series will be open to all who wish to attend.
