Formula One has been set ablaze with rumors that 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton may make a shock switch from Mercedes to join Ferrari in 2025.
While no official confirmation has come from the teams or Hamilton himself, multiple media outlets are reporting insider sources saying the deal is all but done. Hamilton would apparently replace Carlos Sainz at Ferrari, casting the Spanish driver’s future into doubt.
For Hamilton, a move to the most successful team in F1 history would be the culmination of a career-long flirtation. The British legend has long been linked with the Scuderia, and now aged 39, seems ready to take the plunge.
It would give Hamilton the chance to end Ferrari’s lengthy driver championship drought while also besting F1 great Michael Schumacher’s record 7 titles. Joining a third different team as World Champion would also put Hamilton in esteemed company with Juan Manuel Fangio.
For Ferrari, landing Hamilton would represent a major coup. Despite having Charles Leclerc signed long-term, team chairman John Elkann has reportedly been keen to snag a proven superstar name.
While some whisper that Hamilton may be approaching the twilight of his career, the chance to drive for the iconic Prancing Horse and cement his GOAT status seems too tempting to pass up.
Of course, Mercedes would be loath to let their talisman go. But with George Russell waiting in the wings, they may feel it’s time to pass the baton.
Whatever happens, these rumors have set the F1 driver market ablaze. Will Hamilton actually trade silver for Ferrari red? Or will he stay loyal to the team that has taken him to 6 world titles? Expect more wild speculation until the teams make an official announcement!
