Following the season’s second race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bubba Wallace is off to the best start since joining the Cup Series in 2018.
Wallace’s season started with 7 combined Stage Points earned in both stages of the Daytona 500. Wallace would survive the late-race chaos to score his 3rd Top 5 in the 500 coming in 5th. Wallace would score a total of 39 points, leaving the 500 and leaving 5th in the standings.
Atlanta was seemingly the opposite of Daytona for Wallace as he was caught up in the big one on Lap 2. Wallace sustained seemingly race-ending damage in the incident, but the car came through with only minor to moderate damage. Wallace would spend the rest of the race dodging wreck after wreck, even scoring 3 Stage Points in the first stage.
Wallace would keep himself in contention all afternoon, leading 3 laps and finally finishing P. 5 despite getting tight in the last corner with his damaged race car. Bubba would go on to score another 35 total points at Atlanta, putting him at P. 4 in the standings going into Las Vegas.
Vegas has been hit or miss for Wallace since the start of the NEXT GEN era. Let’s see if he can keep this impressive run going.
