NASCAR Hits Joey Gase With Monetary Fine Following His Bumper Toss

On lap 174 of Satruday’s Xfinity Series ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond Raceway, Dawson Cram shoved his former team owner Joey Gase into Turn 1 causing Gase to back into the outside wall, ending his day. What came next is already locked into our minds. Gase exited his No. 35 and proceeded to rip the entire rear fascia off the car. What happened next was where the problem resides.

Gase proceeded to walk down the hot race track with the rear bumper and chucked it at Dawson Cram’s No. 4 Camaro. As a result of this unsafe action, Joey Gase was fined $5,000 Wednesday morning by NASCAR. Joey violated Sections 8.8.8K: “A safety violation may be imposed for any action or omission by a competitor or vehicle that creats an unsafe environment or poses a threat to the safety of the competitors, as determined by NASCAR.”

Gase’s walk down a hot race track, even under yellow, posed a risk to not only Gase himself, but safety crews that may have followed him down the track as well. Gase would finish in 34th position with Cram finishing in 25th.
