2024 NASCAR Cup Series Round of 8

Drama strikes again at the Charlotte Roval. With Kyle Larson, William Byron, and Christopher Bell all locking themselves in on points before the end of the race, it was up to another of the Round of 12 to get their win. Unfortunately for the rest of the field, they had to race Kyle Larson with a fantastic car and a large lead. Alex Bowman was one of those who locked in on points at the end of the race with a little help from a Stage 2 win.

Well, for a few hours, that is. Bowman’s No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro was sent through post-race inspection, where NASCAR officials found that the No. 48 was too light. Officials gave the 48 team every opportunity to bring the 48 car back up to minimum weight, but they failed to do so. The result was the team’s disqualification resulting in only a single point earned on the afternoon. Not enough to move on.

Joey Logano and the No. 22, the first car out of the Round of 8, were the benefactors of the Hendrick 48 team’s violation, resulting in Logano moving on. On Monday afternoon, Hendrick Motorsports chose not to appeal the penalty, therefore keeping the 48 out… and the 22 in.
