Our Favorite Stewart-Haas Racing Moments

On July 10, 2008, Manufacturing giant and Cup Series team owner Gene Haas and two-time Cup Series champion Tony Stewart announced the formation of Stewart-Haas Racing. Starting in 2009, the team would field two Chevrolet Impala SSs for Tony Stewart in the 14-car and Ryan Newman in the 39-car.

Since then, the team has scored two Cup Series titles, an Xfinity Series title, and Crown Jewel wins like the Brickyard 400 and Daytona 500. They have amassed 81 Pole awards and 102 wins across the sport.

With Homestead-Miami Speedway coming up this weekend, the racing team that has been around in this form since 2009 has only three races left. So that got us thinking: What was your favorite SHR moment?

We asked around with our contributors, and here are their thoughts.

Kurt Busch Wins the 2017 Daytona 500

“The emotion he had after that and the damage on the car looked so good… It was also cool seeing Tony Gibson being that happy.” -Christian.

“Kurt Busch became my driver in 2015 after I learned Gordon was retiring. It was awesome to see him win in person at Michigan in 2015, but I’ve never screamed at the TV like I did when they came through the tri-oval at Daytona for that 500 win! The dogs went nuts, too.” -Tom.

“For many years, Tony Stewart was seen as a championship-caliber driver. A force to be reckoned with. By this time, his ownership role was taking a better turn with a strong four-car team. But Tony Stewart, the driver, was fading. Nothing seemed to go right for Smoke since the start of the Gen 6 era. From on-track struggles or off-track issues and occurring injuries, everybody knew the end was near for Tony. But for one race, he pulled off some of the best driving that we had seen in a long time. The last lap bout between Stewart and Hamlin is a moment I will always cherish in the storied history of Stewart-Haas Racing.” – Joseph.

  1. One of my favorite Stewart-Haas wins was Clint Bowyer at Martinsville. It was seeing Cash running the start/finish line to congratulate dad that got me.
