NASCAR’s Three Charter Cap Confirmed

The rumor had been swirling before the end of the 2024 season that under the new Charter agreement, NASCAR would impose a new Charter Cap to the NASCAR Cup Series. Well, Seriously Fast Motorsports can confirm that teams that do not currently possess four Charters are limited to a maximum of three.

In today’s day and age, that grandfathers in only two organizations, Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick Motorsports currently operates the 5, 9, 24 and 48 Charters. Joe Gibbs Racing operates the 11, 19, 20 and 54 Charters. However, this is not a complete limit on teams with three. Teams that currently operate three or less Charters can field other cars as Open entries such as TrackHouse Racing’s Project 91 or Legacy Motor Club’s 84 entry for Jimmie Johnson.

Many fans and critics of this decision will point out an unfair operating advantage to JGR or HMS for getting guaranteed money for their one extra car that teams such as Front Row or 23XI will never get.
