NASCAR fans and drivers have spoken, and NASCAR has listened to us all! Starting in 2026, NASCAR will begin rotating the Championship weekend among key markets and venues. Best of all, it begins at Homestead-Miami. Once again, NASCAR goes the way of stick and ball sports with a rotating championship venue. The difference? NASCAR is unique in the different types of tracks offer differing challenges that those other professional sports cannot compete with.
Not since 2001 has a venue other than Homestead-Miami Speedway or Phoenix Raceway hosted the title fight, but 2027 will likely see that change, making it 25 years. With no specific venues mentioned as of now, multiple warm/warmer climate tracks could serve as the host venue. Atlanta, COTA, Las Vegas, Charlotte, and Sonoma come to mind. There appears to be no specific track type that NASCAR focuses on, leaving the whole thing open to interpretation.
Another point to keep an eye on is the possible change of the Championship format, which has remained essentially unchanged since 2014. NASCAR made it public last season that they were looking into a possible change; however, none appeared for the 2025 season. Could this big change in the rotating venue be just the kick in the pants that NASCAR was looking for to make those changes? What changes could those be? Tom had some ideas. Read his concept here.
