Who I’d Sign for Cadillac F1

Cadillac F1 makes its grid debut in 2026. It held its launch party at the Miami Grand Prix, but no drivers were announced. It is rumored that they have a short list of six drivers for the two seats. So, who should they sign?

Car 1- Sergio Perez, 2-year deal

The lead driver should be Sergio Perez. Formula 1 is the ultimate meritocracy in motorsport. Perez was able to have a career that spanned 13 seasons, which is no small feat for F1. He brings a wealth of knowledge and sponsorship to the new team. Historically. He has gotten the most out of midfield cars. Nobody expects Cadillac to be competing for championships in year one. Perez will be the consistent point scorer they need.

Car 2- Mick Schumacher, 1-year deal

The formed F2 champion is talented. His first stint in F1 was a disaster, so why give him the nod? It comes down to marketing. A new team ultimately needs marketing and cash flow to be successful. Schumacher is a marketing giant who will bring eyes to the team. Ferrari is providing engines for the team until 2028; another Schumacher under Ferrari power would be a marketing dream.

Reserve Drivers- Jak Crawford, Alex Palou, Colton Herta

Jak Crawford is an American F2 driver. He’s currently a reserve driver for Aston Martin and Andretti Formula E. With Andretti ties, it would be an easy transition to Cadillac.

Alex Palou is dominating IndyCar. In four races, he has three wins and a second-place finish. He is cruising to his fourth championship in five seasons. Palou deserves a chance at F1. Each weekend, he proves his talent. Palou has the points for a super license, but not the required seat time. Becoming Cadillac’s reserve driver would qualify him for a super license in a season.

It’s long been rumored that Colton Herta is in contention for the Cadillac seat. He currently doesn’t have the points for a super license. He would need to finish fourth or better in the IndyCar standings this season to qualify. Right now, he’s only a few points off. Getting him to be a reserve driver would help meet the qualifications for seat time. Andretti wants Herta for the seat, and making him the reserve driver would help satisfy that.
