Charlotte, NC – Hendrick Motorsports has had three iconic numbers that will ride with them until the end. The number 5, where it all started. The number 48 a is 7x Championship-winning number. And the iconic number 24. The number 24 car is one of those numbers that holds no other recognizable history in NASCAR outside of Hendrick Motorsports. Four Championships, five Daytona 500s, and 107 Cup Series victories. The name synonymous with the 24 will always be Jeff Gordon. Today, a young William Byron is making his name known to the history books.
William Byron has won two of the five Daytona 500s as well as thirteen of the 107 Cup victories for that number. So it is only common sense to lock that type of talent down until near the end of the decade. William Byron and Hendrick Motorsports announced Friday morning that Byron will continue to run the legendary No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet until 2029.
At just 27 years old, Willy B has a long career ahead of him and a fantastic history already established. He has made six consecutive Playoff appearances and back-to-back Daytona 500 victories, making him the youngest multi-time winner in the 500’s history. On top of the 500s, Byron has also made back-to-back Final 4 appearances.
