In 2017, Gene Haas and Tony Stewart made the switch from Chevrolet to Ford in NASCAR’s top two series for Stewart-Haas Racing. It was a significant shift for the team as the previously named Haas CNC Racing had been with General Motors since its inception in 2002.
Prior to the change, Stewart-Haas Racing had amassed two Cup Series Championships and 36 of their total 70 Cup Series victories behind the Bow Tie of Chevrolet. Team Co-Owner Tony Stewart would score 16 of those victories, Kurt Busch would win 4 times, Ryan Newman would win 4, and Kevin Harvick would win 12 of them.
Now with Ford Racing, the freshly rebranded No. 41 Haas Factory Team Mustang Dark Horse has seen a horrific Cup Series season in 2026 with only two Top-10s and a single Top-5 with previous Cup winner Cole Custer behind the wheel. The team has seen some success down in the Xfinity Series with Sam Mayer behind the wheel of the 00 Mustang after winning at Iowa. Overall, both Xfinity teams, including Sheldon Creed, have seen a lot of speed with both drivers in sure-fire Playoff spots.
Next year, the Haas Factory Team will move back to Chevrolet with support from an old ally, Hendrick Motorsports. This technical alliance will include Hendrick-built engines in both the O’Reilly Auto Parts and Cup programs for 2026.
The official press statement also confirms that all three HFT drivers will return to their new Chevrolets for the 2026 season.
