Rico Abreu came into Sunday night’s event at Path Valley Speedway Park on a bit of a hot streak. The driver of the #24 sprint car had only finished worse than 7th once since the series returned from its west coast swing on August 23rd. During that period, he won five races and took control of the High Limit points.
Sunday wasn’t as kind to the St. Helena, California driver, struggling right out of the gate with a 32nd place showing during hot laps and eventually making the field using a provisional. Abreu sliced his way to 15th from his 25th-place starting position in the opening laps before getting caught up in an accident involving Logan Rumsey on lap 13 and ending up on his side. Rico would go on to finish 15th while points runner-up Brad Sweet managed a 6th after battling for the lead early.
With just five races remaining on the 2025 calendar, Abreu holds a 52-point lead over Sweet in the standings. That’s not a lot of breathing room with the “Big Cat” lurking in his shadows. The series will next be in action on October 10th and 11th at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City and again on October 15th at Lucas Oil Speedway in Missouri before heading to Texas for the All-in Championship Weekend.
