NASCAR dropped the penalty report following this past weekend’s Wurth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. Although there were two penalties levied this week, one stood out, a massive behavioral penalty against RFK Racing’s Ryan Preece.
Preece, driver of the No. 60 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing, was cited for a behavioral penalty under Sections 4.3 & 4.4A: NASCAR Member Code of Conduct Guidelines. Preece was penalized for his intentional contact against the No. 54 Toyota of Ty Gibbs that resulted in a DNF for Gibbs.
Ryan Preece has been fined $50,000 and assessed a loss of 25 driver points for his actions against Gibbs on Sunday. Preece left Texas with 298 points, sitting a comfortable 12th in the standings. The lost points drop him a single spot behind Christopher Bell with 273 points.
This is a big deal on another front. Remember the last lap tangle between Kyle Busch and John Hunter Nemechek? Well, fans are not too pleased with the fact that, although they feel Busch’s actions against JHN were the same, Busch received no penalty.
The only other penalty from the weekend was a loose lugs penalty on the No. 34 truck of Layne Riggs that resulted in the fining of $2,500 and suspension for Crew Chief Dylan Cappello
