NASCAR Makes Major Rules Changes to Superspeedways to End Fuel Mileage Racing

Wednesday afternoon, NASCAR released its new rules changes to help combat the “fuel mileage” racing that has been plaguing the GEN 7 car at superspeedways. Fans and drivers alike have complained vocally about the racing since 2022. So, on Wednesday, NASCAR dropped its changes.

Aero Changes

  • 4″ spoiler – The same as we run on intermediates currently. Down from a 7″ spoiler
  • New spoiler braces
  • Spoiler deflection device redesigned to accommodate the 4″ spoiler

Power

  • Engine tapered spacer reduced to 27/32″ – 465hp. Down from 510.

What fans can expect

  • Fans can expect to see slightly higher single car speeds, approximately 3 mph. In the pack, don’t expect to see much change compared to what we saw in February.
  • Fans can expect to see more passing opportunities with the decreased amount of Drag in the cars.
  • You can expect to see a higher likelihood of a completed pass with a 5 mph advantage, vs the current car that saw drivers apprehensive of taking runs in fear of stalling out

You can see the new rules in play for the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway at 7:30 pm on August 29th on NBC.
