At just 17 years old, Kade Brown has already established himself as one of the top Late Model Stock Car racers, and he added another accomplishment to his young career by dominating the second half of the South Carolina 400 on Saturday night for his first win in the crown jewel event.
Brown had to hold off charges from Kaden Honeycutt and Carson Kvapil in a fierce battle at the front. On a late restart, Honeycutt tried to slam the door on Brown entering turn one but Brown held strong on the outside and retook the top spot.
From there, Brown drove flawlessly over the final laps to capture the checkered flag, becoming the youngest winner in South Carolina 400 history. It was his second straight victory after also winning the Fall Brawl at Hickory Motor Speedway last weekend.
“It means so much. Going back to the Myrtle Beach days, Sam Yarbrough would be my hero just watching him dominate. To be able to compete against all those guys for wins, it means so much,” Brown said.
Honeycutt, Kvapil, Josh Berry and Brenden Queen rounded out the top five behind Brown’s breakthrough win. Dale Earnhardt Jr. also had a strong run to finish eighth.
The 17-year-old Brown has taken the Late Model Stock ranks by storm, becoming a multi-time winner and track champion in his young career. His South Carolina 400 triumph marks another milestone for the emerging superstar.
