The Downfall of Late Model Racing in 2023

This year has been a huge downfall for Late Model racing.

There has been fight after fight after fight and it’s been complete nonsense and extremely stupid to watch or even look at articles on Twitter etc.

From a driver’s father getting attacked at Hickory Speedway to a brawl with people jumping on top of another teams car that wasn’t even involved at Martinsville are just some of the things that have happened this year.

Hickory Incident:

Earlier this year, Landon Huffman’s dad: Former NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series Champion, Robert Huffman was attacked by former NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Jake Crum at Hickory Motor Speedway in May after an incident between Landon and Annabeth Barnes-Crum happened on a restart which saw Crum spin. She would then intentionally wreck Landon under caution and Jake would attack Robert in the spotters stand.

Jake Crum has charges pressed against him for the attack and was charged with an assault charge. Plus, was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR for the incident.

Charges has since been dropped by the Huffman’s

Martinsville Incident:

After a heat race at Martinsville for the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 in September saw two teams got into it in the garage area after the race and were pushing and shoving. They landed on another competitors car and ended up damaging the nose and right front fender of the car.

Another incident in late model racing that just is absolutely embarrassing to watch.

And now, to today’s incident, Ryan Joyner would wreck Bradley McCaskill into the wall in the closing laps of the Limited Late Model race at Southern National for the Thanksgiving Classic.

McCaskill would stick his head into the right side of Joyner’s car and rip wires out of the car. A fight would then happen after he was pulled out of the car.

All in all, late model racing has been embarrassing because of all these fights and more this year. I believe some changes are definitely 100% needed to stop these fights from happening in all respective series before something worse even happens.
