Great Stories From Texas

Sunday afternoon’s race at Texas Motor Speedway was one of the more entertaining at the track in recent years. Drivers and teams had several great runs, so let’s dive into some of those.

Hooters Returns to Victory Lane

Not since the first Pocono race of 1992 has the Hooters brand been the primary sponsor of a winning race car. That changed yesterday when Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott won with Hooters on the hood 32 years later.

Hocevar Scores First Career Top 10

Carson Hocevar ran nine races for Spire Motorsports and Legacy Motor Club in 2023 as a fill-in driver, and he netted a best finish of 11th place at Bristol in the fall. In his first full-time season for Spire Motorsports, Carson got his first career top-10 finish this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.

Wallace Goes From a Spin to a Top 10

The 23XI Racing driver spun from the lead with SHR’s Chase Briscoe following the Post Stage 2 restart. The 23 car received light damage during the spin, but Wallace wheeled his No. 23 Camry to a 7th-place finish over the remainder of the race.

Keselowski’s Runner-Up

Brad Keselowski has either had great finishes this season or not-so-great finishes. Sunday’s Texas race was good to Brad; after Hendrick’s William Byron got into the 1 of Ross Chastain coming out of Turn 2, Brad dodged both cars to take the runner-up spot in his best finish since the Summer Daytona race last season.

Two Top 10s for RCR

After a disappointing start to the season for both of the Richard Childress Racing drivers, both Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon scored Top 10 finishes at Texas. This was the first top 10 this season for Dillon in the 3 car and only the 3rd for Kyle Busch in the 8.

Chase Elliott Breaks 42 Race Winless Streak

It’s crazy to think that the sport’s most popular driver and 2020 Cup Series Champion hadn’t seen Victory Lane in well over a year. Sunday afternoon, Chase Elliott broke that streak in double overtime at Texas Motor Speedway while holding off two of the sport’s most aggressive drivers, Denny Hamlin and Ross Chastain. This is Elliot’s 19th career Cup win at his 15th different track.
