After an abysmal start to the 2025 season for Red Bull Racing’s Liam Lawson, Red Bull Racing swiftly replaced Lawson with the 24-year-old Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda from their sister team, Racing Bulls. Lawson was repeatedly one of the slower cars in qualifying and currently sits in 17th position in the driver standings of the 19 positions available.
Tsunoda has made many strides in his F1 career to put himself in contention for one of the most coveted drives in the Championship. He currently sits P. 13 in the drivers’ standings with 3 points earned following the 2024 season, when he scored a career high 30 points.
Lawson, however, is not out of a drive. Lawson will remain in the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship racing for Racing Bulls in Tsunoda’s old car. The rookie came into the 2025 season with what many F1 fans called “gross overconfidence” or a “cocky attitude” but feel he couldn’t keep up to the hype. Tsunoda is now the sixth teammate of four-time World Champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull, and only time will tell if the seasoned vet can keep pace with Max.
