Tyler Ankrum hasn’t been to the NASCAR Truck Series victory lane since 2019, but that ended last Saturday as he got his second career Truck Series victory at Rockingham Speedway. Ankrum was behind the wheel of the No. 18 LIUNA Chevrolet Silverado RST for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing, ending a 130-race winless streak as NASCAR celebrated its return to the historic venue.

The 200-lap race came down to a fuel mileage battle, with the No. 18 team gambling that they had enough in the tank to stay out and lead the final 29 laps. Ankrum masterfully conserved fuel with his right foot while turning fast lap times, a strategy that ultimately propelled the team to victory lane.

Corey Heim led a race-high 52 laps, but his fuel mileage gamble ended with his truck running dry several laps short, leaving snake-bit Heim in eighth place. Layne Riggs was running Ankrum down in the closing laps, but he too came up a few laps short on his gas mileage gamble by running dry and finishing 11th.

Jake Garcia started from the pole and led 43 laps. In the end, he got a career-best second-place finish. Daniel Hemric, Ankrum’s teammate, finished third, Rajah Carruth fourth, and Grany Enfinger rounded out the top five. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns to action Friday, May 2nd, for the SpeedyCash.com 250 at Texas Motor Speedway. You can catch all the action at 8 PM EST on FS1.
