NASCAR has kept team payouts for the Cup Series Charters very hush-hush since they were initially offered to the 36 teams in 2016. Despite speculations and assumptions, the numbers have never seen the light of day publicly, until now.
The documents below have been shared widely on X this morning. This is now public thanks to the 23XI Racing/ Front Row Motorsports vs NASCAR lawsuit, which has made it public record.
The base payout for a chartered team for the season is just over $5,000,000. To put that into context, some stick-and-ball athletes are making more per game than an entire race team. That team has to fund a car and pay a large staff. Now, as you can see below, that is not a full payment and does not include performance payments or purse percentages. But it shows the charter payouts in full detail.

*Edit* – It appears that FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass dropped these originally

There is not a stick and ball athlete that makes $5M a game
