McFarland’s Great Kansas Run Went Up in Smoke. Literally

Garrett Mitchell (AKA Cleetus McFarland) was relegated to a 25th-place start after severe weather rolled through the area, canceling qualifying. But Garrett flew through the field like a bald eagle. Ripping the top and taking it three wide, Garrett would climb his way into the top-10.

With 25 laps to go, Garrett was running P. 10 when the No. 30 Reete Jones Ford Mustang began spewing smoke and oil from underneath. Garrett would wheel the hell out of the car to keep it straight, eventually down to the track apron. However, two others would not be so lucky. Both Isabella Robusto and Andy Jankowiak got caught in the oil being laid down behind the 30. Jankowiak and Robusto would both make heavy impacts and end their day early.

Garrett’s Top 10 run would come to an end on Lap 25 and result in a 20th-place finish.
