Heim Holds Off Honeycutt in a Michigan Thriller as the Trucks Race in the Irish Hills

BROOKLYN, Mich. — Corey Heim may not be running the full NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series schedule this season, but when he shows up, he is still the driver to beat.

Heim drove the No. 1 Celsius Toyota to victory Saturday at Michigan International Speedway, holding off TRICON Garage teammate Kaden Honeycutt by just .065 seconds in the DQS Solutions & Staffing 250. It was Heim’s first career Truck Series win at Michigan, his third victory in only five Truck Series starts this season, and the 26th win of his Truck Series career.

Heim’s return to select Truck Series competition in 2026 has been anything but quiet. He’s looked sharp while driving his part-time schedule, and Michigan was another reminder that the No. 1 truck remains a threat anywhere it unloads. Heim did not dominate the day, but he was in position when it mattered, taking control late after Carson Hocevar’s truck began overheating.

Hocevar, a Michigan native, had the truck to beat for much of the afternoon. He led a race-high 65 laps and appeared to be headed toward a storybook home-track victory before the overheating issue opened the door for Heim and Honeycutt. Hocevar still salvaged a third-place finish, but this was one that slipped away.

Honeycutt made one final charge through lapped traffic coming to the checkered flag, but Heim protected the run and beat him to the stripe. Layne Riggs and Chandler Smith rounded out the top five, while Christopher Bell finished sixth after sweeping both stages and leading 37 laps.

One of the more unique storylines of the weekend came from Cleetus McFarland, who pulled double duty as both driver and the grand marshal. McFarland gave the command to start engines from the driver’s seat of his No. 4 Niece Motorsports Chevy before firing it up and racing the event himself. Michigan International Speedway had announced earlier in the week that McFarland would serve as grand marshal while also making his return to the Truck Series.

McFarland’s race was eventful. He spun off Turn 2 to bring out a caution, but managed to keep the truck off the wall and continued. He finished 25th, on the lead lap, in only his second Truck Series start of the season.

Ty Majeski has been snakebit as of late. He started off the day with promise and ended in frustration. Majeski put the No. 88 Ford on the pole with a lap of 183.407 mph, but the race went downhill quickly. He fell back after the start, bounced off the wall early, and later crashed in Turn 2 while running 15th. Majeski was credited with a 35th-place finish after completing 87 laps.

The race featured 20 lead changes among six drivers and seven cautions for 34 laps. Heim led only the final 15 laps, but those were the ones that counted.
