With rumors swirling for the past few days that John Hunter Nemechek would be out of the No. 42 Camry at the end of the 2026 season, we got an official update on Wednesday. Legacy Motor Club made the public announcement that John Hunter would no longer run for the team following the season-ending race at Homestead-Miami.
It is widely rumored that Josh Berry is the top candidate for the 42 and that LMC may have recently decided to release JHN. Typically, a Toyota pipeline driver would have been the most likely candidate, but with a short timeline, Berry might have been the best available.
As for John Hunter Nemechek, it is not yet known where he will land for the 2027 season either. It is highly likely that he may have to return to the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series with the limited number of rides rumored to be available for the 2027 season in Cup.
Nemechek is currently only four points ahead of Berry in the standings, P. 27, and 80 points behind his teammate Erik Jones, who runs 21st in the standings.
