After sources confirmed it earlier in the week, Richard Childress Racing has made its 2027 ARCA Menards Series plans official. For the first time since 2011, RCR will return to the series with YouTube sensation and all-around car guy Cleetus McFarland behind the wheel. Along with him come his millions of loyal YouTube followers.
Garrett Mitchell, whose online persona is ‘Cleetus McFarland’, will field the No. 33 Chevrolet SS in pursuit of his first stock car title. Supporting him on the pit box will be Robert Strmiska.
“Cleetus has an undeniable passion for racing and a work ethic that has impressed everyone at our organization,” said Mike Verlander, President of Richard Childress Racing. “Cleetus is a perfect fit for RCR. He’s earned this opportunity, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish over the course of a full season. Pairing Cleetus with Robert Strmiska gives him the support of a talented leader who is equally passionate about racing.”
Earlier this season, Cleetus signed a 2-year development deal with RCR, which included limited starts in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. On top of the OAPS, Cleetus competed in multiple Craftsman Truck Series races in 2026 as well.
The last time the RCR 33 raced in ARCA was a one-off appearance with Ty Dillon behind the wheel at Iowa Speedway. Ty would finish P.2 that afternoon. In 2027, Cleetus will look to duplicate that type of success.
