The 2019 season was the last time we raced for a championship here at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was five years into NASCAR’s playoff format. The Round of Four featured four future Hall of Fame drivers: Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, and the late Kyle Busch.
All four would lock the first two rows up tight. Denny Hamlin would start the race with the Pole position locked up.
Truex would win Stage 1; Busch, Stage 2. Denny would only lead a pair of laps. Harvick would lead 41. But in the end, the two best drivers would be Truex and Busch who led 103 and 120 laps repectivly.
Busch would ultimately go on to not only win the race, but his second NASCAR Cup Series title. The candy man showed his 2015 title wasn’t a fluke, and would cement himself into NASCAR history as a multi-time champion.
Today at 3 pm, not only will this be the first race at Homestead Miami without Kyle Bush, but also the first championship race at Homestead without Kyle since he first raced a Cup car there in 2005.
