Formula 1 Mid-Season Review

Red Bull

The first half of the Formula One season has been a disappointment for Red Bull. They currently lead the drivers and constructors championship but are vulnerable in the constructors championship. The only reason this team is leading the constructors championship is because they have Max Verstappen and nobody else does. Verstappen is single-handedly keeping this team afloat. They don’t have the fastest car on the grid currently, but they do have the fastest driver and that’s making the difference. Sergio Perez on the other hand, is in poor form. I’m not sure if it’s a decline or if he’s just in a slump, but he needs to fix whatever is going on fast. He has been the most disappointing driver this season and it’s not close.

Ferrari

Ferrari has to be ecstatic with their performance this season. Halfway through the season, they are only 71 points behind Red Bull. Both drivers have a victory on the season. Other than a few strategy blunders, you couldn’t ask for a better first half of the season. Carlos Sainz’s performance is making me question if they should’ve gotten rid of them. His tryout for a new team has been going spectacularly. Charles LeClerc won his home Grand Prix, no matter what happens for the rest of the season he will have that to fall back on.

McLaren

McLaren continues its improvement from the second half of last season. Lando Norris scored his first career win at Miami. The first half of the season has been great for McLaren. They are only seven points behind Ferrari in the constructor’s championship. While behind Ferrari, it is clear that they are the better team. You can just see the improvement, and you can feel that this team is coming for the constructors championship. Oscar Piastri continues to improve and that will be paramount to a possible constructors championship. They should have a strong, second half of the season.

Mercedes

Mercedes was the clear number four team at the beginning of the season, but then the upgrades came. The team has won the last two races with each driver scoring a win. They have to be happy with the results they are getting, as they are making up ground in the constructors championship. George Russell proved that he could lead the team into the future. Lewis Hamilton won at his home Grand Prix, if this is his final victory for Mercedes it’s a special one. This will be a team to watch in the second half as their car has improved more than any others in Formula One over the first half of the season.

Aston Martin

The team has taken a nosedive since last season. Fernando Alonso was scoring podium in the first half of last season, now some weeks he’s fighting for points. It doesn’t help that the team also decided to keep Lance Stroll. Stroll has been doing better this season, but it still holding the team back. I do not believe this team will improve much in the second half, as they are waiting for Honda to re-enter F1.

Visa Cash App RB

RB is quietly having a really good season. Yuki Tsunoda continues to be a consistent driver who scores points consistently. Daniel Riccardo is also finding form as of late. If they keep this off, RB could catch Aston Martin for fifth in the constructors.

Haas

It has been a magical first half of the season for Haas. They are by far the most improved team from last season. They have already matched their point total for last year and we are only at the halfway point. Nico Hulkenberg has cemented himself as the greatest driver in Haas F1’s history. It’s going to be sad to see him leave the team at the end of this season. His teammate on the other hand hasn’t done very much this season. Kevin Magnussen will probably be out of Formula One with his performance this season. If the team had a better number two driver, it could be higher in the constructors. What Haas has been doing seems to be working, and I think that they will be in contention for more points in the second half.

Alpine

Disaster is an understatement for Alpine’s first half of the season. They produced a car that was severely overweight to begin the season. This blunder cost many people their jobs. The two drivers have also had multiple run-ins on the track that resulted in one of them being let go at the season’s end. What’s the new technical direction, they have been able to score 9 points on the season. I’m not sure how much better they can be in the second half, but the team is showing improvement week to week.

Williams

This season has been a nightmare for Williams. Multiple chassis have been destroyed and they have a number two driver who is just riding around until season’s end. With the extensive repair bill from the first half of the season, the team will probably play it safe in the second half. They may get a few points here or there, but I don’t see them getting over 10 points for the season.

Kick Sauber

This team is not even trying. I don’t have much to say because they are waiting till 2026. Audi will take over then and you are going to see an improvement to the team. Alpine came in with a severely overweight car, fired multiple employees, and had driver disputes. Somehow Alpine has scored points and Kick Sauber has not. That alone should show you the state of this team. I would not be surprised if they end the season with zero points in the constructors championship.
